We have an exciting and unique role to provide direct mental health support and wellbeing interventions to families within a residential unit setting. Within this role you will also have the opportunity to work alongside families and contribute towards parenting assessments and child protection. This role is an exciting opportunity for those within the mental health sector to expand their knowledge in safeguarding and working with families holistically. We need a passionate and experienced mental health nurse to work in a well-established team at our residential family centres in London. The role involves assisting and supporting in making decisions about treatment and care in complex situations, advocating on behalf of service users and supporting them to access the appropriate mental health care and support.
our major role will be to engage with service users and help meet their needs during the most difficult period in their lives. Experience of working with individuals in crisis is desirable. This is a challenging environment, and we are seeking people with enthusiasm, motivation and resilience.
You will work closely with families and children, offering them support throughout the admission to services. Developing relationships with families as well as service users is extremely important to the team.
The priority for the post holder will be to:
· Provide high levels of support and intervention for individuals with complex mental health needs.
· Contribute to the organisations parenting assessment of the service users.
· Deliver a range of nursing and psychosocial interventions to help reduce individual’s distress.
· Liase with mental health services within the local areas such as GP’s Perinatal team and crisis teams.
· Providing direct support to service users when emotional dysregulated and in crisis.
· Provide support and training to the staff team relating to mental health diagnosis, treatment and interventions.
· Assist and support colleagues in making decisions about treatment and care in complex situations.
· Provide one-to-one support for upset, distressed, or confused service users.
· Provide mental health support through group work, taking a therapeutic approach.
· Offer support and advice to service users presenting with a range of undifferentiated mental health, psychological problems, and psychiatric illnesses
· Deliver a range of nursing and psychosocial interventions to individual service users and their families, as appropriate.
· Conduct mental health risk assessments and mental health wellbeing check ins with service users.
· Handling service users’ medication and storing them appropriately
· Conducting medication audits.
Skills
· Demonstrable experience of working in a mental health setting
· To be able to work within a multi- disciplinary team including social workers, assistant psychologist and support staff.
· Knowledge and experience of adult and child safeguarding procedures
· Handling service users’ medication and storing them appropriately
· Ability to deal with emotional and distressing situations
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Respect for the privacy and dignity of individuals
· Ability to manage demanding situations
· Ability to cope with exposure to unpredictable behaviour
