REFERRALS

Jamma Umoja will consider working with any adult(s) who are the parent / carer of a child(ren). There is no maximum or minimum age. A risk assessment is always carried out to determine whether the risks are manageable prior to a placement being offered.

Where the parent / partner has a history of offending or being considered a serious risk, even if there were no convictions, there might need to be a MARAC and specialist assessment by an expert prior to admission such as a forensic risk assessment.

Some parents undertake a period of viability and have supervised contact as a pre-assessment and / or whilst undergoing a risk assessment with senior staff.

The unit can take service users with mild learning disabilities, using a range of models to support service users in line with Good Practice Guidance on Working with Parents with Learning Difficulties.

Jamma Umoja has a long history of working with adults with complex needs. Parents who have substance misuse difficulties can be admitted on a Methadone or Subutex programme.

We are proud to offer After Care Service to families regardless of the outcome of assessment. This includes check in’s with ex residents, free attendance to the range of weekly groups we offer including Men’s group, Freedom Programme and the Mindfulness and Wellbeing group.

Local authorities and solicitors can email their requests over to referrals@jamma-umoja.org. Local authorities will send over their placement request form which highlights the main concerns of the case. Solicitors can send over the court bundle, hair strand test results and previous assessments.

We read through the documentation and risk assess to see whether we could manage the case at Jamma Umoja. We also make the decision of the level of monitoring that we think the family should be placed on. Local authorities and solicitors are then sent a confirmation of acceptance or rejection or an alternative to a residential assessment such as community or a viability assessment. Once agreed local authorities must then fill out our admission form and working agreement to proceed.
